Child of the Confederacy

I have written several versions of this story. It seems I must repeat it every so often. I am black and I know that does not mean a darn thing because we are all equal. I mention it because I must in order to make my point. My point is simply this. I am a Negro of mixed ancestry. Both of my parents are black and come from the deep South. My family history is riddled with mixtures. German on my fathers side and Irish on my mothers side and Native Seminole on both sides. The point is AFRICA IS NOT MY HOMELAND. I am NOT an African-American. I am a child of the Confederacy. My only home is HERE on this soil and I will defend her to the death. I have no other homeland. I live or die here where I stand. I have no divided loyalties. I am an American and NOTHING ELSE. Thank you for listening.
